According to preliminary reports, an individual entered the store around 11:10 a.m., brandishing a firearm and demanding money from a clerk. The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Kelvin Gerard Jackson of Augusta, was confronted by responding Rome Police Department officers as he fled the scene.
The chase ended on McGhee Street, where Jackson was shot and killed by an officer. A gun was found next to Jackson’s body, which is now slated for an autopsy at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur. No officers were injured.
