TENNILLE — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has ruled that Washington County Sheriff Thomas Smith died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
On Saturday, August 10, at about 8:16 a.m., the GBI was asked by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the death of Sheriff Thomas Smith.
Smith was discovered at his residence in Tennille.
On Monday, an autopsy was completed at the GBI Headquarters Crime Lab in Decatur.
According to the GBI, the preliminary results of the autopsy indicate that Sheriff Smith died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
