Sexual Assault Reported on Roswell Riverwalk Trail

ROSWELL — A grim incident has come to light as a 19-year-old woman has reported a sexual assault that occurred in a wooded area south of Riverwalk Trail, according to the Roswell Police Department.

The location is near to Riverside Road and Dogwood Road, a popular portion of the trail.

According to the victim’s report, the encounter took place early this morning, just shy of 8 a.m. The young woman told police that she was walking along the paved trail when an unknown man approached her from behind.

The suspect, who was reportedly dressed in dark clothes and sporting a surgical or “Covid” mask, threatened her, claiming to have a gun. Following this, he forced the woman off the trail and into the woods where the sexual assault occurred.

The Roswell Police Department, currently in the early stages of their investigation, are actively pursuing leads.

A person-of-interest is already being spoken with by detectives in relation to the case. As the investigation advances and additional details are confirmed, the police department has promised to share updates with the public.
