DALTON — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an aggravated assault on Dalton Police Department officers that occurred on Friday, Feb. 24.

According to authorities, 23-year-old Eron Naseem Buggs was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for murder warrants from St. Mary’s County, Maryland and armed robbery warrants from Coweta County.

Buggs had reportedly called 911 to turn himself in at 815 Shugart Road in Dalton.

According to the GBI, when the officers arrived, Buggs fired shots at them, prompting the officers to take cover and not fire their weapons. Buggs then fled behind the apartments and into the woods, where he shot himself.

Once officers were able to safely approach Buggs, medical treatment was administered. He was then transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton before being airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the GBI is urging anyone with information to contact them.
