Why is the St. Simons pier closed?

The eastern side of the St. Simons pier will be closed beginning Aug. 12. The entire pier will be closed weeknights between 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Aug. 23 and Sept. 3.

According to Glynn County spokesman Matthew Kent, the eastern side of the pier is closed to store materials used to reconstruct the wooden fender system. The larger portion of the pier will be closed to replace the vinyl soffit material over the walkway.
