Saturday night’s severe storms caused down trees and wires and at a house fire in Gwinnett County.
According to Gwinnett County fire officials, a lightning strike caused an attic fire at a home in Scarborough Place near Stone Mountain.
The homeowners were out of town and the fire was reported by a neighbor.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 8:20 p.m.. Crews arrived to find a working fire in the attic of a two-story house over a basement. Firefighters quickly deployed fire attack hose lines and made immediate entry to combat the blaze and conduct a primary search.

There was no one home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Firefighters contained the fire to the bonus room above the garage and part of the attic space. The fire was contained in just over 20 minutes, according to fire dept. spokesman Tommy Rutledge.
The fire burned a hole in the roof over the bonus room and caused extensive damage to the attic. There is smoke and water damage throughout the second floor.
According to fire department officials, the fire appears to be the result of a lightning strike. A strong thunderstorm was moving through the area at the time. There is also evidence of bark being blown off a tree next to the house.
