Georgia residents waking up to icy conditions today will see some relief as temperatures gradually climb throughout the week, peaking in the mid-50s by Friday.

What’s Happening: A cold Sunday with icy patches across the Atlanta area sets the tone for the start of the week. Temperatures will steadily increase, with a noticeable warm-up beginning Monday and continuing through the week. Rain is likely by the weekend.

Details: Today’s highs will barely crack 40 degrees, leaving much of the ice intact, especially in shaded areas. Monday will see some improvement as highs reach 45 to 48 degrees, melting the remaining ice in most locations. Overnight lows Monday will still dip into the mid-20s, keeping mornings brisk.

Tuesday and Wednesday will bring continued cold with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid-20s. A more significant warming trend begins Thursday, with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. Friday will see the warmest temperatures of the week, climbing into the mid-50s under partly cloudy skies.

By Saturday, rain showers are expected to accompany highs in the mid-50s, making for a soggy start to the weekend.

Why It Matters: Icy roads and sidewalks will likely persist through much of today, and caution is advised for drivers and pedestrians. Monday’s temperatures will start to ease the freeze, but the most comfortable weather won’t arrive until Friday.

What’s Next: Residents should plan for icy patches today and early tomorrow and keep an eye on forecasts for rain over the weekend. Warmer weather later this week offers a chance to enjoy outdoor activities before the rain returns.
