A motorcyclist lost his life Sunday night after losing control of his bike on Bobby Jones Expressway in Augusta.
The Details: Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies found a man in the grassy median on the eastbound side of Bobby Jones Expressway around 11 p.m. on February 25. The crash happened between Laney Walker Boulevard and Doug Bernard Parkway.
Investigators determined the motorcyclist was traveling west when he lost control of his motorcycle. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.
In Context: Motorcycle crashes are particularly dangerous compared to other vehicle accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists are about 22 times more likely than people in passenger cars to die in a traffic crash per mile traveled.
