The Gist: Milton will be implementing a trial of a new approach to address road safety concerns at the intersection of Bethany Bend and Highway 9. The trial aims to reduce the high number of motor vehicle accidents, particularly those involving turning cars.

What Happened?: The City of Milton has identified the intersection of Bethany Bend and Highway 9 as one of the busiest and most dangerous intersections in the area. Crash data over the past few years has shown a disproportionately high number of accidents, with many involving turning cars. To address this issue, the city will be installing signage instructing drivers not to turn right when there is a red light at the intersection.

The timing of this trial is intentional, as it will happen in July when vehicular travel is generally at its lowest in Milton due to the summer season. The updated signage will be unveiled on July 10, marking the official implementation of the change.

The City’s Public Works team will closely monitor and analyze data on accidents and traffic congestion at the intersection.

What’s Next?: Following the installation of the updated signage, the City’s Public Works team will closely monitor and analyze data related to accidents and traffic congestion at the intersection. The trial will be evaluated in August, after school resumes, to determine its effectiveness.
