Members of a Jan. 5, 2021, tour led by U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia recorded parts of the U.S. Capitol complex "not typically of interest to tourists, including hallways, staircases, and security checkpoints," according to the House committee investigating the Capitol insurrection.

Jan. 6 Committee releases footage of Loudermilk tour showing visitors photographing hallways and stairs leading to Capitol

by Stephen Fowler | GA TodayJune 15, 2022June 18, 2022

Members of a Jan. 5, 2021, tour led by U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia recorded parts of the U.S. Capitol complex “not typically of interest to tourists, including hallways, staircases, and security checkpoints,” according to the House committee investigating the Capitol insurrection.

A widely anticipated hearing Thursday by the U.S. House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol alleged two groups supporting then-President Donald Trump planned the riot to stop the transfer of presidential power — while Trump tacitly endorsed the insurrection and was indifferent to calls to hang then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Alpharetta man pleads guilty to assaulting officers during U.S. Capitol attack

On Tuesday the U.S. Senate will commence a trial of former President Trump, who stands impeached by the House of Representatives for inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the Congress, which left five people dead. The verdict is all but certain -- the former president will be acquitted, since the required 17 GOP senators will not join with Democrats to reach the 67-vote supermajority needed to convict him. But the trial, no matter what it says about Trump, will say much about our nation, and the continuing threat to democracy. For these reasons, all of us should feel bound to watch it, and to integrate every painful detail.
