As of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s noon report, the state of Georgia has had a total of 799 deaths from coronavirus. Over half of those deaths have been African Americans.

According to the Department of Public Health, African American deaths account for 421 of the state’s total number of deaths. Whites make up 300 of the deaths and hispanics make up 16 of the state’s total deaths.

In terms of number of cases, African Americans make up 5,402 of the confirmed cases, while whites make up 3,746 confirmed cases.

The racial and ethnic background of 8,945 confirmed cases remains unknown. Among the cases with unknown racial and ethnic backgrounds are 32 deaths.

Statewide, Georgia now has 19,881 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 3,779 hospitalizations and 799 deaths.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced yesterday that Bowling Alleys, tattoo parlors and hair salons were free to open up for business on Friday and dining areas at restaurants, theaters and private social clubs are free to open Monday.

Albany Mayor Bo Dorough, says that is the ‘wrong decision’ and said he will be asking the governor to make an exception for Dougherty County, which was the hardest hit area in the state.
