Georgia surpassed 2,500 coronavirus deaths Tuesday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

A total of 2,529 people have died from COVID-19 in Georgia and there have been 59,078 confirmed cases. Georgia added 132 more hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 to 9,454.

Gwinnett County remains the county with the highest number of infections, with a total of 5,451 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Fulton County has 5,148. In Fulton County, 295 people have died, while in Gwinnett, 156 have died.

The youngest person to die in Georgia from coronavirus was a 17-year-old African American from Fulton County. He had a known chronic condition.

Georgia had its highest number of new cases reported in a single day since May 1 on Saturday, with 1,018 new cases.
