Georgia reported 1,018 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, making it the largest single-day increase in reported cases since the state's shelter-in-place order on May 1.

Georgia reported 1,018 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, making it the largest single-day increase in reported cases since the state’s shelter-in-place order on May 1.

The number of new cases reported May 1 was 1,232. The largest one day increase since the pandemic began in Georgia was 1,598 on April 7.

The total number of cases in Georgia is now 56,801, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. There have been 2,446 deaths in Georgia from coronavirus.

Gwinnett County has the highest number of cases in the state with 5,141. Fulton County, Georgia’s most populated county, has 5,100 cases.

Earlier this week, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp lifted more of the state’s coronavirus restrictions, including the shelter-in-place order for elderly residents with no preexisting conditions.
