LINCOLNTON — A 20-year-old Georgia woman has died after a mobile home fire in Lincolnton Wednesday night.

Fire officials say at about 9 p.m. Feb. 12, the Martin’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential fire located off of Sims Road in Lincolnton. After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the body of 20-year-old Aubrey Jedidiah Smith inside the home.

“The double-wide mobile home built in the sixties was completely destroyed by the blaze. The body of the deceased was turned over to the GBI Crime Lab, where an autopsy is set to be performed,” said Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King. “At this time, we are unable to rule out any electrical malfunctions as having caused the fire.”

King’s Fire Investigations Unit assisted the Martin’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department and the Midway Volunteer Fire Department with this investigation.

Smith is the 13th victim in Georgia to die in a fire this year.
