An 11-year-old boy was flown to the hospital Sunday after a car hit him while he was riding his bike in Newnan.
What Happened: Police responded to Roberts Road near the LINC biking and walking trail around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The boy was riding his bike through a crosswalk when he was struck. He was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with serious injuries.
- The driver stayed at the scene and was not hurt. No charges have been filed.
- People who saw the crash said the boy was unconscious with blood coming from his head and had visible injuries on his legs.
The Problem With This Road: Neighbors say Roberts Road has been dangerous for a long time. Drivers regularly speed through the area, and the crosswalk warning lights that pedestrians press to alert cars have been broken for at least a month or two.
What Happens Next: Two city council members who represent the area said they will bring neighbors’ safety concerns to the city manager. They plan to ask how many crashes have happened at this spot and whether the crosswalk design needs to be changed.
