Cairo High School sophomore Bryian Duncan, a standout player for the Syrupmakers football team, sustained an injury in Friday night’s game against Peach County.
According to Head Coach David Coleman, the injury occurred during the game’s course, prompting immediate attention from team doctor Dr. Lynch and on-site emergency personnel.
Duncan was immobilized as a precautionary measure and transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he underwent extensive testing. Fortunately, after thorough evaluation, Duncan was cleared and released, walking out of the hospital with his family and Cairo High staff present to support him.
Coach Coleman expressed his gratitude to the Syrupmakers’ fans, the broader Cairo community, and the many individuals who reached out in support and prayers for Duncan’s recovery. As an essential player with a promising future, Duncan’s release from the hospital brought relief to both the Cairo High team and the local community.
In Context
The Syrupmakers have a storied legacy in Grady County, with football as a key pillar of community pride and engagement. In 2024, the team faces a competitive season with Peach County joining Region 1-3A as part of GHSA’s reclassification. With Coach Coleman, a Cairo graduate himself, at the helm, the team is focusing on building up young talent while banking on experienced players to lead the season. As such, injuries like Duncan’s are watched closely, not only because of his skill but due to the close-knit nature of the Cairo community that rallies around its athletes.
