As Election Day approaches, Lyft is ramping up its efforts to support voter turnout across the United States, aiming to make it easier for Americans to get to the polls.

With a history of providing over 3 million rides to voters, the rideshare company now plans to increase that number by 25% this November 5. The initiative, part of Lyft’s Voting Access Program, combines discounted rides, collaborations with influencers, and partnerships with nonprofits.

Helping Voters Get to the Polls

Recognizing that lack of transportation can be a significant barrier to voting, Lyft is offering a 50% discount on rides to the polls on Election Day. By using the code “VOTE24,” riders can save up to $10 on their trips, available from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. in every U.S. time zone. This offer is good for all types of transportation options Lyft provides, including rideshares, bikeshare, and scooters.

Jerry Golden, Lyft’s Chief Policy Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to voter accessibility: “Lyft believes transportation access should never be a barrier for any citizen seeking to vote.”

Spreading the Word: Influencers and App Updates

Lyft has enlisted high-profile influencers, including Serena Page, Kordell Beckham, and Sasha Colby, to encourage young voters to get involved. Lyft is also releasing data to highlight rideshare’s impact on voting, and sharing stories from drivers assisting voters, including first-time participants and an 89-year-old finally able to vote after decades of waiting.

On November 5, Lyft’s app will feature election-themed updates. Riders applying the Election Day discount will see red, white, and blue confetti, adding a celebratory feel to the experience.

Partnerships for Impact

For a decade, the Lyft Up Voting Access Program has worked with nonprofit groups to provide free and discounted rides to people facing obstacles getting to the polls. This year, the company has partnered with the Democracy Reinvestment Fund and expanded its coalition to include Levi Strauss & Co. and Showtime/MTV, focusing on boosting voter turnout among community college students.

Additionally, Lyft continues its collaboration with national nonprofits, including the National Council of Negro Women, League of Women Voters, and the YMCA, to ensure widespread access for those who might otherwise struggle to participate in the election.
