The January 6 committee wants to talk to Barry Loudermilk about a tour on Jan. 5

The Jan. 6 committee is asking a Georgia Republican Congressman to cooperate with its investigation.

On Thursday, the select committee investigating the Jan. 6th attack on the United States Capitol sent a letter to Rep. Barry Loudermilk, a Republican who represents Georgia’s 11th Congressional District.

At issue is a tour of the Capitol the committee says Loudermilk led the day before the attack.

The committee is asking for Loudermilk’s voluntary cooperation.

“Public reporting and witness accounts indicate some individuals and groups engaged in efforts to gather information about the layout of the U.S. Capitol, as well as the House and Senate office buildings, in advance of January 6, 2021,” the letter from the committee reads.

The letter mentions that the the Committee on House Administration, which Loudermilk serves on, claimed it reviewed security footage from the days before the Jan. 6 attack and determined there were no such tours.

The committee rejects that conclusion.

“However, the Select Committee’s review of evidence directly contradicts that denial,” committee members wrote in the letter.

The committee is proposing a meeting with Loudermilk next week.

The letter is signed by Bennie G. Thompson and Liz Cheney, the chair and vice chair of the committee.
