A late-night fire at a Valdosta apartment complex forced seven people from their homes Tuesday.

The Details: Firefighters arrived at 2313 N. Barack Obama Blvd. at 11:49 p.m. to find flames coming from a second-story unit. Crews contained the blaze and confirmed no one was inside.

The fire started because of improperly discarded smoking material, according to investigators. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, was treated by SGMC Health EMS at the scene, and released.
