The Details: At 9:02 p.m. on February 23, the Valdosta Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at a home on Langdale Drive. Firefighters arrived in less than three minutes to find flames and heavy smoke pouring from the single-family home.

Nineteen firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control and conducted a thorough search to confirm that no one was inside.

One person living at the home was displaced and will stay with friends, officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Valdosta Police Department and SGMC Health EMS assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported.

In Context: Fires in residential homes are a persistent public safety concern, with the National Fire Protection Association reporting that cooking and heating equipment are among the leading causes.
