For the fourth year, the Fulton County school system is taking a unique approach to the school lunch menu. The system lets the students decide if a new recipe passes muster with their tastebuds.
Fulton County Schools is hosting its fourth annual Student Choice Food Challenge, an event where students from across the school system come together to taste and vote for potential new school meal recipes. About 160 students will participate in the tasting event.
The Food Challenge is an opportunity for Fulton’s own students to give a voice in selecting healthy school meal recipes, empowering them to make nutritious choices while increasing their awareness of dietary guidelines that impact school meals.
Students will taste test potential new recipes to be served in school meals, and provide feedback through student ratings. The collected data will help the district determine which student-approved recipes will be added to school menus.
The Fulton County School Nutrition Program has principle responsibilities for operating in 95 school kitchens to provide the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, After School Snacks, Seamless Summer Feeding and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Programs across the district.
