HARLEM — Security has been increased at a high school in Columbia County today after a threat found written on a wall in a student restroom.
Columbia County School District officials say the message was left on a bathroom wall at Harlem High School. The school’s principal says the school does not believe the threat is credible, but security is being increased as a precaution.
Below is the letter sent to parents by the school’s principal Casey Dees.
“In an effort to keep you informed, we are notifying you of a threat written on a wall in a student restroom. Administration was notified and immediately began investigating, along with the Columbia County School District Police. At this time, we do not believe the threat to be credible, and as such, school day operations will continue as normal. However, out of an abundance of caution, we will have an increased presence of law enforcement on campus as the investigation continues.
“All responsible parties will be held accountable according to the law and the code of conduct. Threats of any nature are not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Parents, please speak with your children about the serious consequences that come with making threats, stated or written. Consequences may include up to removal from school, and/or criminal charges. Any suspicious behavior can be reported to an adult, school administrator, School Resource Officer, or by contacting the Columbia County School District Anonymous Tip Hotline at 706-541-3600. If you see something, say something.
“Working together we can continue to provide a safe learning environment for students and staff. Please contact the main office with any questions.”
