The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 14-year-old student at Apalachee High School Wednesday afternoon after finding him in possession of a firearm on school grounds.

What’s Happening: Sheriff’s officials say that around 2:02 p.m., school resource officers located the student and safely secured the weapon without any incident. The teenager, who was reportedly cooperative with law enforcement, faces multiple charges, including possession of a weapon on school property, theft by taking, and being a minor in possession of a firearm.

Background: This incident comes just months after a tragic mass shooting at the same school. On September 4, a 14-year-old student, identified as Colt Gray, opened fire at Apalachee High School, resulting in the deaths of two students and two teachers, and injuring nine others. Gray was arrested and faces multiple charges, including felony murder.

Why It Matters: Authorities said there were no threats made to other students or staff. The quick response by school resource officers and administrators ensured the situation was resolved without harm.

What’s Next: The student, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, has been transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center. The sheriff’s office says more updates will be provided as they become available.
