A fatal crash in Forsyth County claimed the life of a Utah woman and left her fiancé injured on Friday morning. The couple, who were in town for a wedding, were struck by a vehicle while walking on the sidewalk near the intersection of Majors Road and Ronald Reagan Boulevard.
The Details: The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on September 20, when Forsyth County’s 911 Center began receiving calls reporting a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians. According to investigators, a 17-year-old driving a 2012 Acura MDX lost control of his vehicle while making a left turn from Ronald Reagan Boulevard onto Majors Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver was reportedly unable to safely navigate the turn, likely due to speeding, which caused the vehicle to jump the curb and hit the pedestrians.
Steve Olsen and his fiancée, Leslie Schwendiman, both from Utah, were walking along Majors Road when they were struck from behind. Schwendiman later died from her injuries. Olsen was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover. The couple had traveled to Forsyth County for a wedding.
