SAVANNAH — Savannah Police detectives have arrested a 16-year-old in connection to the Aug. 29 shooting death of a 2-year-old girl at a home on Alaska Street.
According to the Savannah Police Department, officers responded to a residence on Alaska Street at about 4:30 p.m. and discovered 2-year-old Lauren Barton suffering from a gunshot wound.
The toddler was transported to a hospital where she died as a result of the incident.
The teen boy, who fled from the home immediately following the shooting, was located soon after the incident.
As a result of the investigation, the suspect, whose name is not being released by police, was booked into Regional Youth Detention Center on charges of murder second degree and cruelty to children second degree.
The investigation remains ongoing.
