Four security officers at Fulton County Jail have been arrested and charged following an investigation into widespread contraband smuggling and serious misconduct. Among the charges, which include providing inmates with cell phones and engaging in improper sexual contact, one officer added a strange twist to the scandal by allegedly smuggling a chicken pot pie into the jail.
The Details:
- Breaisha Tate, 26, faces the gravest accusations, including three counts of improper sexual contact with an inmate and several counts related to smuggling contraband. Tate allegedly smuggled six cell phones into the facility by hiding them inside a book and engaged in sexual activity with an inmate on three occasions. Records indicate she received $1,682 in payments for the contraband.
- LaQuna Ballard, 34, is accused of sending explicit photos and videos to an inmate and conspiring to smuggle cell phones and cigarettes into the jail. She faces charges including possession of prohibited items and conspiracy to commit a felony.
- Regina Harris, 26, allegedly provided an inmate with a cell phone and is charged with crossing guard lines with prohibited items, in addition to other charges.
- Anizya Silas, 24, was charged with smuggling a phone charger and, notably, a chicken pot pie to an inmate. While the other contraband items raise serious concerns, the smuggling of food highlights the sometimes unusual nature of these operations.
These officers, who were employed by Strategic Security, a company contracted to provide security services at the jail, were terminated following their arrests.
Why It Matters: This scandal shines a harsh light on ongoing issues within the Fulton County Jail, where contraband smuggling and misconduct have repeatedly surfaced.
Sheriff Pat Labat expressed his disappointment, stating that these officers betrayed the trust placed in them. “These women unfortunately chose to be on the wrong side of the law by fraternizing with residents they were entrusted with watching over,” Labat said. “They will now have to face the consequences for the crimes they are accused of committing. Our employees and contractors alike are held to a high standard of integrity.”
What’s Next: The investigation is ongoing, with more arrests expected as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network. Sheriff Labat’s office remains committed to holding all involved parties accountable and restoring integrity within the facility.
