A Sunday night argument inside a Bixby apartment in Kennesaw ended in gunfire, leaving one man dead and a woman injured, according to Cobb County Police. Officers responded to a call about a person shot at the Bixby Apartments on George Busbee Parkway around 8:15 p.m. on June 22.

Police say Anthony Lockett, 22, of Kennesaw, had been in the apartment earlier in the evening when an argument broke out. Lockett left, then returned with family members. Police say he confronted people inside the apartment with a gun and fired several shots. One of those shots hit 24-year-old Jalen Parker, of Kennesaw.

Someone living in the apartment returned fire. During the exchange, Lockett’s mother, Antoinette Hammonds, was shot. First responders found her outside near the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to Kennestone Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Jalen Parker was also taken to Kennestone Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police say Parker’s next of kin have been notified.

Anthony Lockett has been taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and felony murder.

What We Don’t Know: Police have not released details about what sparked the argument inside the apartment.
