📊 The Gist: Fresh evidence has emerged in the long-standing investigation of the 2015 double homicide of Bud and June Runion, with significant finds during recent searches in McRae-Helena, Georgia.

📝 The Details: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported a series of new discoveries tied to the case of the Cobb County couple’s death. On April 14, 2024, a local engaged in magnet fishing in Horse Creek uncovered a .22 caliber rifle. Days later, the same individual retrieved a bag containing the Runions’ driver’s licenses, credit cards, and a cell phone.

Following these findings, the GBI and Telfair County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at a nearby residence on Webb Cemetery Road on April 17 and April 19, gathering additional evidence slated for crime lab analysis.

In January 2015, police arrested Ronnie Jay Towns for the Runion’s deaths and armed robbery. Towns was later indicted.

🌐 The Big Picture: The case drew national attention when the Runions disappeared after planning to purchase a vintage car from Towns, leading to a widespread search.

🔍 What’s Next?: The upcoming trial in August will likely incorporate this new evidence, potentially influencing the proceedings and outcomes of this longstanding case.
