A routine traffic stop on Allenville Road in Berrien County escalated into a chase and ended in gunfire on Monday evening. The incident, which is now under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, unfolded when a Georgia State Patrol Trooper from Post 13 Tifton attempted to stop a vehicle at 6:21 p.m. for a traffic violation.

The Details: According to The Georgia Department of Public Safety, the driver of the vehicle refused to comply with the Trooper’s attempt to pull them over, leading to a high-speed chase through the rural area. In an effort to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion, the Trooper executed a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver, a tactic used to force a fleeing vehicle to stop by making controlled contact with its rear bumper.

Following the PIT maneuver, the situation escalated further, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The circumstances surrounding the gunfire, including who fired first and the condition of those involved, have not yet been disclosed.

What’s Next? The GBI has taken over the investigation to determine the events leading up to and following the PIT maneuver and subsequent shooting. As is standard in such cases, the GBI will examine all available evidence, including any video footage, witness statements, and forensic analysis, to provide a comprehensive report on the incident.

Local authorities have not released the identity of the driver or the Trooper involved. It remains unclear what prompted the initial traffic stop or the exact nature of the traffic violation.

Further details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
