Former Georgia Poll Worker Charged With Bomb Threat and Lies to FBI

A Milledgeville man has been indicted for allegedly sending a threatening letter to the Jones County Elections Office and lying to federal investigators. Nicholas Wimbish, 25, faces federal charges tied to the bomb threat and false statements made during the investigation.

What Happened: According to the indictment, Wimbish was serving as a poll worker on October 16 when he had a verbal altercation with a voter. The next day, he allegedly mailed a letter to the Jones County Elections Superintendent, purporting to be from the voter he clashed with. The letter contained threats against poll workers and implied a bomb threat, ending with the note “PS boom toy in early vote place, cigar burning, be safe.” Investigators later discovered the letter on Wimbish’s computer.

The Charges: Wimbish is accused of:

• Mailing a bomb threat.

• Conveying false information about a bomb threat.

• Mailing a threatening letter.

• Making false statements to the FBI.

If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison for the bomb threat and five years each for the other charges.

What’s Next: Wimbish was arrested on Nov. 4 and made his initial court appearance in the Middle District of Georgia the following day. His case is part of the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force initiative, which aims to protect election workers from threats and violence.
