MCDONOUGH — An escaped inmate from Connecticut has been picked up by The Henry County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Investigation Unit.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Forenza Rakeem Murphy was serving time on a robbery charge at a Connecticut Department of Corrections Halfway House in Bridgeport when he left without permission.

The sheriff’s office received word that Murphy was at a family member’s house in McDonough Oct. 1 at about 4:15 p.m.

Sheriff’s officials arrested him and took him into custody just as family members were setting up for his birthday party.

“If you make your way into Henry County, we’re going to get on your trail and we won’t stop until you’re caught,” Henry County Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett said. “It was a great collaborative effort with The Connecticut DOC that led to the apprehension of Murphy.”

Murphy had been on the run since Aug. 8 and will now face additional charges. He’s currently being housed in the Henry County Jail.
