BROOKHAVEN– The Brookhaven Police Department has arrested two men in connection with the theft of construction equipment on Buford Highway, marking a significant development in an investigation that began in June.
The Details: The investigation, led by Brookhaven’s Criminal Investigations Unit, focused on the theft that occurred in the 2700 block of Buford Highway. The inquiry stretched across multiple jurisdictions within Georgia, as detectives worked to identify those responsible. After months of investigative work, authorities identified two suspects.
On August 14, 2024, Brookhaven Detectives, in collaboration with detectives from other agencies, executed a search warrant in Dunwoody. They arrested the two suspects without incident.
The Suspects:
- Margarito Amaya-Zalasar, of Atlanta, has been charged with theft by taking and retail theft fencing, both felony charges.
- Juan Torres-Tello, also of Atlanta, faces the same felony charges.
What’s Next: The investigation remains active, and no further details have been released at this time. The ongoing nature of the case suggests that more information could emerge as detectives continue their work.
