The Gwinnett County Police Department believes it has solved a 2012 cold case and has obtained warrants for a suspect who is already in prison.

The Gwinnett County Police Department’s Cold Case Unit has obtained warrants for Nazar Matheson for the murder of Robert Mixon on Nov. 2, 2012. A detective assigned to the Cold Case Unit has been investigating this case with the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for years.

Mixon was shot to death inside his apartment on Satellite Boulevard in 2012.

Detectives originally assigned to the case spoke with witnesses and fielded tips but were never able to identify a suspect. The case was eventually assigned to a Cold Case Investigator. That detective was able to locate DNA evidence which police say linked Matheson to this murder.
