A Canton man faces multiple charges after police say he lost control of his truck and killed a bicyclist on Sugar Pike Road Sunday evening.
What Happened: Carlos Moreno, 51, of Alpharetta, died at the scene after being hit by a pickup truck around 5:50 p.m. Sunday.
Police say the driver crossed both lanes of traffic and hit Moreno, who was riding his bike in the opposite direction.
The Charges: Lane William Keyes, 42, of Canton, was arrested at the scene. He faces seven charges including vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and tampering with evidence.
Police say they believe alcohol and speed played a role in the crash. Keyes also faces charges for having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.
What’s Next: Keyes is being held without bond at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center. The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate.
