An overturned tractor trailer has shut down I-985 North at Exit 17.

Officers are on the scene and are advising motorists to find an alternative route.

Tybee Island Police Department catches glimpse of SpaceX satellites

The Tybee Island Police reports that officers caught a glimpse of the SpaceX satellite launch as the rocket passed over Tybee Island at about 5:30 this morning.

Long-term road closure in Laurens County

Trinity Road in Laurens County will be closed from Camden lane to Winfield Road for about 30 days due to a pipe replacement.

Atlanta Mayor and Council member take bus tour of black-owned farms

Mayor Andre Dickens, Councilmember Liliana Bakhtiari for Atlanta, and State Rep. Dar’shun Kendrick were among Georgia notables who took an inaugural bus tour to three black-owned farms to bring awareness to Black-owned farms and to address the issues they currently face.

Burke County blood drive

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with Shepeard Community Blood Center to host a blood drive.

This will take place on Thursday, May 12 from 12 p.m to 5 p.m. in the front parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office.

No appointment is needed, but the option is available. All donors will receive a free t-shirt.

Drive-through food pantry in Cobb

Cobb’s drive-through food pantry is open Wednesday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the South Cobb Regional Library at 805 Clay Road in Mableton.

Free Clinic in Augusta

The student clinics of the Medical College of Georgia, the Dental College of Georgia and the College of Allied Health are holding a the ALAS Free Health Fair from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7 in the Family Medicine Clinic in the Medical Office Building, 1447 Harper St.  in Augusta.

The clinic is open to the public and will provide screenings, physical exams and health education to the uninsured and underinsured in the community.

Services include: 

  • Adult and pediatric doctor visits
  • Prescription refills (bring old medication bottles)
  • Pap smears
  • HIV/PrEP
  • Dermatology screening
  • School screening
  • Vision screening
  • Dental exams and cleaning
  • Mental Health screening
  • Women’s Health screening

​​​​​​​The clinic is an initiative of the Asociación Latina de Servicios del CSRA (ALAS), which provides three clinics at Augusta University dedicated to serving Hispanic, underinsured and uninsured patients in the Augusta area: Clinica Latina, Pediatric Clinic and ALAS Free Mental Health.

These clinics are entirely student run and are supported by the AU Medical Center through the use of labs and clinic space. They are staffed by medical students and staff from multiple disciplines throughout the health system.
