The Gist: Trey Kenny, 33, a former deputy of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, has been apprehended and charged with a plethora of crimes including first-degree burglary, eavesdropping and surveillance, theft by taking, and second-degree criminal damage to property, among others.
What Happened?: According to the GBI, the preliminary investigation indicates that Kenny committed multiple crimes during a home burglary that occurred between June 30 and July 11. Kenny’s activities came under scrutiny after the Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office requested an investigation into his conduct on July 19.
Kenny was dismissed from his role at the Cook County Sheriff’s Office on July 7.
What’s Next?: With the investigation ongoing, the public is being urged to come forward with any relevant information by contacting either the Cook County Sheriff’s Office or the GBI regional investigative office in Douglas. Upon completion, the case file will be handed over to the Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for evaluation and prosecution.
