WRENS — A fire in a mobile home in Jefferson County claimed the lives of two minors and a 62-year-old woman Friday morning.

According to the state insurance and fire commissioner’s office, the City of Wrens Fire Department responded to a residential fire on McDonald Court shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Two children, ages 2 and 3 years old were killed in the fire along with 62-year-old Deborah Johnson.

“The residence was an old, single-wide mobile home. The fire is believed to have started in the enclosed front porch. At this time, this case remains under investigation,” said Safety Fire Commissioner Jim Beck. “No smoke detectors were found in the home.”

The bodies of the deceased were sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsies and positive identification. Investigators with the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office are assisting the City of Wrens Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and Jefferson County Coroner’s Office with this investigation.

In 2019, Georgia fires have claimed the lives of 30 individuals.
