Police search for suspect in killing of Thomson man

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at about 5:30 p.m., the Thomson Police Department requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in its investigation of a homicide which occurred on Boulevard Drive in Thomson, Georgia.  

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at about 5:30 p.m., the Thomson Police Department requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in its investigation of a homicide which occurred on Boulevard Drive in Thomson, Georgia.  

According to the GBI, at about 5:15 p.m., officers with the Thomson Police Department were dispatched to the 600 block of Boulevard Drive in reference to a person being shot. Upon arrival, officers found 35-year-old Norris McCord Jr. dead inside the residence. 

GBI, Thomson Police Department, and the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office began conducting interviews reference this investigation. 

The GBI has named 27-year-old Paul Jones Jr. a suspect in the case and are searching for him. The GBI says a criminal arrest warrant for the offense of Murder has been issued for the arrest of Jones, who should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Paul Jones Jr. is asked to contact the Thomson Police Department at 706-595-2166, the GBI at 706-595-2575, or McDuffie County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 706-595-2145.

McCord’s body will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur where an autopsy will be performed.

The investigation is ongoing.
