Gas prices in Georgia continue to rise, with drivers now paying an average of $3.39 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, according to AAA. This is 14 cents more than the average price a week ago and 20 cents higher than the same time last year.
Montrae Waiters, a spokeswoman for AAA, said that the rise in crude oil prices is the main reason for the increase in gas prices. Despite this, Waiters could not predict how high prices will rise this week. AAA suggests drivers follow money-saving tips to help combat the rising prices.
Across the nation, the average for a gallon of regular gasoline has risen 9 cents to $3.50 since last Monday. Data from the Energy Information Administration shows that gas demand rose slightly last week, from 8.05 to 8.14 million barrels per day.
The mild winter weather and more drivers on the road may also contribute to the increase in pump prices. Despite the rise in demand, total domestic gasoline stocks increased by 1.7 million barrels to 232 million barrels.
