Gwinnett County Police to honor fallen officers

As part of National Police Week, the Gwinnett County Police Department will conduct a memorial ceremony May 15 to remember its officers killed in the line of duty.

As part of National Police Week, the Gwinnett County Police Department will conduct a memorial ceremony May 15 to remember its officers killed in the line of duty.

The ceremony will include remarks by Police Chief A.A. Ayers, prayer, the laying of the wreath, followed by a three-volley salute, Taps, and a flyover with helicopters from police departments from Gwinnett, DeKalb, and Fulton counties.

The 20-minute memorial service is set for 10 a.m. at the Gwinnett County Police Training Center at 854 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville
Over the years, Gwinnett Police Department has lost four officers. Officers Marvin Gravitt, Jerry Everett, and Ralph Davis were fatally shot April 17, 1964, after responding to a suspicious activity call. James Christopher McGill Sr. was killed May 23, 1993, when his patrol vehicle was struck by a drunken driver.
