The Cat in the Hat is Back. As part of the weeklong celebration of the birthday of Dr. Seuss, a virtual storytime is coming to your home courtesy of the Fulton County Library System.
While libraries remain closed, the library system is hosting an all-day Dr. Seuss social media takeover to keep the celebration going in 2021.
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, @FulcoLibrary will begin airing a full day of live readings of Dr. Seuss stories on Facebook and YouTube live. Kids from 0 to 99 can enjoy some of their favorite titles like, The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Happy Birthday to You and Oh, the Places You’ll Go, and others read by librarians and Fulton County Commissioners.
Stories will begin every 20 minutes and will run through 8 pm. Visit www.fulcolibrary.org for a full schedule of times and titles for the day.
In addition to storytime, Fulton County libraries will also have special Dr. Seuss-themed crafts available for pickup. For a list of locations with crafts, visit www.fulcolibrary.org.
For Dr. Seuss lovers who cannot login for 12 hours to listen to their favorite stories all day, the library system has you covered. All storytimes will remain on Facebook and YouTube for later viewing, or if viewers want to re-watch their favorites later.
“We are pleased to be able to celebrate Read Across America Day in this unique way this year. We were worried that with the limits of COVID-19 restrictions we wouldn’t be able to capture the excitement of the Dr. Seuss birthday parties at local library branches to which our patrons have become accustomed,” said Gayle Holloman, Executive Director of Fulton County Library System. “This library takeover day on social media has allowed us to share our favorite part of the day, the stories of Dr. Seuss.”
