A man was shot multiple times Tuesday morning near Broad Street, sparking a three-hour manhunt that ended in a car crash and foot chase through downtown Augusta.
🔍 What Happened: Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at Aiken Tires on Broad Street around 9:30 a.m., but quickly learned the actual shooting occurred moments earlier at Curry and Brown Street, just behind the Family Dollar.
39-year-old Larry Meminger was shot multiple times and taken to Wellstar MCG Health. His condition has not been released.
⏱️ The Chase: Three hours after the shooting, deputies spotted the suspect vehicle — a white Chevrolet Tahoe — and attempted a traffic stop around 12:45 p.m.
The driver fled, leading deputies on a pursuit through city streets before crashing into another vehicle at 2nd Street and Watkins Street. That driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Wellstar MCG Health.
The suspect ran on foot but was caught by Investigative Sergeant Cameron Hampton and Investigative Sergeant James Treedore.
🎯 Between the Lines: Deputies issued a BOLO for the suspect vehicle and waited for backup before attempting the stop — a tactical decision that proved necessary when the driver chose to run.
The shooting location was initially misreported as Aiken Tires, likely because the victim or witnesses fled to the tire shop on Broad Street after the gunfire.
The Sources: Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
