A quiet Sunday morning turned tragic when a homeowner in Macon made a disturbing discovery in their front yard. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the death of 30-year-old Aubrey Randall Williams, who was found with a gunshot wound outside a residence on Sussex Drive.

What happened

Just before 8 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive person in the 1800 block of Sussex Drive. When they arrived, they found Williams suffering from a gunshot wound in the front yard of a home. Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced Williams dead at the scene.

Investigators confirmed that Williams did not live at the location where he was found. The homeowner who discovered the body immediately contacted authorities.

Investigation ongoing

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators are actively working to piece together what happened and why Williams was at that location.

The coroner’s office has notified Williams’ next of kin as the investigation continues.
