The City of Dunwoody has partnered with Trees Atlanta for the third consecutive year to plant up to 80 shade trees in front yards throughout the community. The program, designed to enhance the city’s tree canopy, is open to property owners on a first-come, first-served basis.

“The Front Yard Tree Program by Trees Atlanta has been a big success in Dunwoody,” said Richard McLeod, Dunwoody’s community development director.

Through the initiative, Trees Atlanta, a nonprofit dedicated to urban forest preservation, will handle tree requests and work directly with homeowners to select and plant up to two trees per yard. Since its launch in 2022, the program has resulted in the planting of 134 front yard trees across the city.

“Dunwoody residents continued to demonstrate their love for trees last year, as we planted all 80 trees allocated to Dunwoody’s front yard tree program,” said Mike Vinciquerra, Trees Atlanta business development director.

Trees must be planted within 35 feet of a right-of-way on private property, and there is no cost for participation. After planting, homeowners are responsible for watering and maintaining the trees.

Planting for the 2025 season will continue through March. Interested property owners can apply online at www.dunwoodyga.gov/frontyardtree.
