A weekend welfare check at a Johns Creek home ended with the discovery of three family members dead in what investigators believe was a domestic murder-suicide.

What happened

Police found the bodies Sunday at a home on Glen Castle Court after someone requested they check on the family. Inside, officers discovered a married couple — 52-year-old James Choi and his wife Myoung Choi, also 52 — along with their teenage daughter, 15-year-old Grace Choi.

Investigators have identified James Choi as the suspected perpetrator, though they haven’t released details about what led to the deaths or who requested the welfare check.

Community impact

The deaths have shaken the Johns Creek community, where crimes scenes in the suburban subdivisions are rare. Police Chief Mark Mitchell acknowledged the tragedy extends beyond just those who knew the family personally.

“This tragic incident has deeply affected not only the family and neighbors, but our entire community,” Mitchell said in a public statement. He asked residents to keep those affected in their thoughts.

Investigation continues

Johns Creek Police aren’t releasing additional information yet, citing both the active investigation and sensitivity toward surviving family members. The department hasn’t indicated when more details might become available.
