Gas prices in Georgia have declined, with the average price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline now at $3.23, down 5 cents from last week, 16 cents from last month, and 41 cents compared to the same time last year.

The drop in prices offers some relief to drivers, especially as students return to school and parents find themselves on the road more frequently. Filling a 15-gallon tank now costs an average of $48.45, nearly $3.00 less than a month ago.

“Students have returned to schools across Georgia, and parents find themselves constantly on the move, with their gas tanks depleting faster than normal, so it was a welcome relief over the weekend when fuel prices dipped at the pumps as if to celebrate the season of back-to-school,” AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said.

Nationally, the average gas price fell by 3 cents to $3.44 per gallon, influenced by a combination of lower gasoline demand, increased supply, and stable crude oil costs. The Energy Information Administration reported a decrease in gas demand and a rise in domestic gasoline stocks, which could lead to further declines at the pump.
