Suspects try to escape police by climbing down balcony at Avalon

ALPHARETTA -- A popular mixed-use shopping development was targeted by burglars who attempted to evade police by climbing off the balcony of an apartment yesterday.

The Alpharetta Police Department responded to reports of a burglary in progress at Avalon involving two men using a crowbar to force open apartment doors. Within minutes multiple officers and detectives were on the scene and quickly began closing in on the suspects.

The suspects saw the officers and tried to get away by climbing down balconies from within the apartment they broke into.

Police were able to capture one of the suspects and detectives are working to identify the second perpetrator who was able to get away.

“We’re thankful for the community member who took the picture of the suspect on the balcony, and the Avalon Security and Valet employees for assisting us,” the department posted on its Facebook page.
