A man who ran across several lanes of traffic on I-75 while trying to escape police on New Year’s Day is behind bars.
According to Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston, deputy sheriffs attempted to arrest a man wanted on a warrant for felony probation violation.
Officials say the fugitive briefly evaded capture after a foot chase in the area of US Highway 41 North and Interstate 75, when the fleeing suspect sprinted across several lanes of heavy traffic on the interstate.
He was apprehended a short time later however near the same area, on Pine Drive, after deputies stopped a suspicious van he was riding in.
According to Ralston, the man, identified as 35-year-old Larry Edward Hurley, was also found to be in possession of a number of bags of methamphetamine.
In addition to the original charge of violating the terms of his probation, he now faces new charges of “Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute”. Hurley was originally on probation for “possession of methamphetamine.” He is in the county jail today pending judicial disposition again.
