SAVANNAH -- A car crash in the early morning hours Sunday left a 14-year-old seriously injured.

SAVANNAH — A car crash in the early morning hours Sunday left a 14-year-old seriously injured.

According to the Savannah Police Dept., the 14-year-old was unrestrained in the back seat of the vehicle. Police are searching for the driver of the SUV who they say they believe was also a juvenile and fled the scene.

Police responded to a single vehicle crash at about 5:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Collat Avenue, where they discovered the 14-year-old. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.

According to the police department, a preliminary investigation revealed that the stolen 2003 GMC Envoy was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a tree. The driver has not been positively identified at this time.
