DECATUR — The City of Decatur has announced that it will be providing a cooling center at the Decatur Recreation Center, located at 231 Sycamore Street, on Sunday and Monday, August 13 and 14.

This move is in response to a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

The cooling center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, offering a respite from the scorching temperatures that are expected to prevail throughout the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this facility to stay cool and hydrated, particularly those who may not have access to air conditioning in their homes.

During a heat advisory, it is important to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends staying indoors in air-conditioned spaces, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and drinking plenty of fluids.

It is also advised to avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.
